Year 11 Assessment Task - Module A - update

More details of the assessment task for Module A, "The Language Of Power", are now available. It will take place in WEEK NINE of this term (June 22-26). We expect to begin on the Monday, 22nd June, and, because it IS a speech, it will occupy many of the English periods that week.

Students will be asked to present a five minute speech to their class, which discusses the ways in which the text's key themes and issues are explored through the composer's use of Language.

In our case, this will mean:

1) examining how language is used as a method of controlling, shaping and manipulating people's behaviour/thoughts in the world of "Nineteen Eighty-Four";

2) explaining how Orwell himself creates mood and meaning through his various methods as a writer, including techniques such as internal discourse, conscious/unconscious narrative, flashbacks, the use of real pre-1949 events to provide context for his predictive fiction, and his own very plain/direct style of writing within his novel.

You will also need to discuss ONE related text of your own choosing, similarly exploring techniques used by its composer. Start seeking your related text(s) now!
